More about me

Rich Fields was born in Bay Village, Ohio in November of 1960. He spent his early childhood growing up on the west side of Cleveland, in the rural town of Avon. In 1976, at the age of sixteen, Rich and his family moved to Clearwater, Florida where he later graduated from Clearwater High School in 1979.

Upon acceptance to the University of Florida in Gainesville, Rich enrolled in the broadcasting curriculum and immediately won an audition to be a disc-jockey at UF’s commercial radio station WRUF. He is the recipient of the Red Barber Award for broadcasting excellence from the University of Florida and has won numerous Addy awards for his work in radio production and commercial voice-over.

Rich became a popular major-market radio personality working at over a dozen stations around the country for some 25 years including a ten year stint at CBS-FM in Los Angeles.

In the mid 90s, Rich landed the job as the announcer on the Florida Lottery's Flamingo Fortune television game show (a Goodson Production) giving him an excellent opportunity to hone his craft. He held the announcer’s position on Flamingo Fortune for over three years.

In the year 2000 Rich went back to college to study meteorology and after training and internships, Rich was named Chief Meteorologist for CBS-2 (KPSP) in Palm Springs.

In March of 2004, while still an on-air meteorologist, Rich auditioned for and won the coveted role as the announcer on television’s longest-running game show, The Price is Right. Bob Barker introduced Rich to the on-air audience on April 27th, 2004. Since then Rich has not only appeared on the daytime and primetime versions of Price but has also appeared on the popular television shows The War at Home, According to Jim and How I Met Your Mother.

In 2005 Rich Fields broke the world record for announcing the most differently titled game shows in a single season at seven (The Price is Right, Beat The Clock, Match Game, Let’s Make A Deal, Family Feud and Card Sharks). The previous record was five shows and held by legendary announcer Johnny Olson.

Rich is a former cancer patient having survived testicular cancer and champions free cancer screening and detection programs. Being a huge animal lover, Rich also volunteers at L.A. area animal shelter fundraisers.

Rich is married to his wife Christine and has a pet Pug named Cosmo.

Hi Rich,
You've done a terrific job with your enthusiastic announcing. Will there be another installment of Gameshow Marathon with either you or Burton announcing? How about these Fremantle shows: Scrabble, Body Language, Blockbusters, Concentration, Super Password, Now You See It, Trivia Trap. Have a great day.

Hi, Rich!
I just read in Stan's book about the very first "audition" you gave at PRICE when you were 18. What a great story. I bet Johnny is now smiling over the fantastic job you've done behind the microphone. I bet Rod is proud too, but at the time of that "audition" Johnny had a little more to worry about ;-). Keep having fun. Maybe someday you'll be calling my name to COME ON DOWN!
