I'm with you Sleepwalker. I thought for sure that Rich would be in line for host when Barker left. I think he is great and would have been much better than Drew. But then they choose Drew. And while I did not like him at first, I did grow to accept Drew, partly due to the real chemistry between he and Rich.  But now I have my suspicions too, that this may have more to do with Drew wanting some of his old improv buddies with him. I know Rich said it was not him, but perhaps Rich is being fooled. (?)  This is also surely an idea of Mike Richards,  as he wants to make it another" Let Make A Deal". Which by the way, I loved the original, but hate this new rendition.  They seem to want to change every good game show into some sort of "comedy hour". Its so unnecessary, and will (sadly) fail on TPIR.

TPIR501, I watched WoF sometimes. I wonder the same thing you thinking about the Wheel stop spinning on it own. In Dawson comeback season in 1994-95, the show expended for one hour (some stations had just only the second half of the show) each family had only 4 instead of 5, and the Bullseye Round turns into the Bankroll Round and one member from each family is only do 3 questions in the round instead of each members in 5 questions. (If you know) the new Feud host is Steve Harvey and it's on air on September 13th (and no Bullseye Round for the next season). It's still used Ray Combs version theme song. And the announcer (what you thought are annoying) are Burton Richardson. Richardson was the announcer in nighttime version it's called The New Price Is Right. But, it's too got canceled in January 1995. he's one of several annoucers for fill-in Rod Roddy due to battling with cancer until his death in 2003. Then he's return for one day due to Rich Fields had a laryngitis in 2006.

This post will show you how naive I am. I have been convinced, the past year or two, that Drew would tire of hosting TPIR and move on to another sitcom or other project and that the producers would make RICH FIELDS host and hire another announcer. It made perfect sense to me. Rich is an outstanding announcer, has a great personality, and has appeared on-camera much more than previous announcers. Rich would make an outstanding host. I was convinced that was the plan. I should have known better. CBS and Freemantle toss Rich out and turn the show into a game show within a variety show - tampering with the original formula that made the show a classic for 38 years. I have to admit I did like Drew Carey as host. But this has his fingerprints all over it.

I was thinking the same thing Kyle2007.I don't want to see The Price is Right end up the same way Family Feud did.Feud was great from '76-'95 but look at it.It has had 5 different hosts,6 different sets, and 3 different themes since 1999 when fremantle took over and yet they still have the same annoying announcer!?The reason WOF & Jeopardy is still popular as they were is because fremantle does not own them fremantle was never givin the chance to destroy them at least in our country. My only complaint about sony owning wheel is they don't play the theme that everbody can identify wheel with like sony does for Jep.3 thing about WOF that leaves me puzzled is why doesn't the wheel spin on it's own anymore? Why is the wheel harder to spin?(I doubt they still use the original wheel maybe thats why)And why is there never any tall contestants on the show?

It's similar of Family Feud in 1994 when Jonathan Goodson (son of Mark Goodson) made the decision to fired Ray Combs then bring back Richard Dawson as host due to declining ratings. But it's got canceled a year later. I hope TPIR not get the same fate as the Feud in 1994-95 season.

Check out this article on AOL TV Squad: http://www.tvsquad.com/2010/07/21/ready-for-changes-at-the-price-is-right-come-on-down/ Take a few minutes and read through the comments section. It's overwhelmingly clear that the TPIR audience as a whole loved and respected Rich and the job he did as the announcer, and consider him to be a crucial part of the show. They are NOT happy with these changes Fremantle. NOT AT ALL. This proves that its not only us die hard core fans that think this is a huge mistake, but the public that watches in general also feel that you are ruining the institution of the show. Furthermore you can see that the general public's opinion is that Rich is the last bit of the classic show left. Most of them do not even really like Drew. Most say they'd rather see Drew leave,.. than Rich. Don't you guys read, or do any research before you make such permanent decisions? Removing..."the glue that holds the show together" (a direct quote from Ryan Seacrest,... during an interview with Rich on his KISS FM radio show) will surely result in a huge loss of viewers. And replacing him with a comic, and adding house bands, will be the end of a format that worked for almost 80 years. Please reconsider your plans, Fremantle and CBS. TO: TPIRFAN79 - "Mike Richards" will never get rid of the beautiful models... he enjoys them too much.

Thanks for the article about what makes Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy so successful, Joacen. What CBS and Freemantle apparently do not understand is that the STARS of Price is Right are the pricing games. That's why we watch. It's all about the games. Add a good host (like Bob Barker or Drew Carey) a good announcer, like Rich Fields, a colorful, attractive set, beautiful models and you've got a wildly successful game show that has become an American Institution. It's a formula that works. They got it right the first time.

I would like to know first about the guest announcer report on the site, what the heck is "Who's Line is it Anyway?" it is "WHOSE Line is it Anyway?" Who's is a contraction of Who is. The show was not Who is Line is it Anyway. Anyway, I hope that the rumors were false, but I guess not. As Bob would put it, "this is a historical moment." Rich is the first announcer being let go on TPIR. Because I know that Johnny and Rod both got sick and passed on. The one good thing about Rich leaving is that he HAS another job. Hopefully he won't get screwed there. I'm so glad that I got a DVR, I can actually skip through the crap which will probably be alot more of with the bands. Why don't they just change the show to "Name That Tune if The Price is Right." Change the name of One-Bid part of the game to One-Bid-a-Note. Guess the name of their song in the least amount of notes and win their crappy CD and go up on stage to play a game. Here they are complaining that their time is cut so short due to more commercial time. Why would they think the bands would be a GOOD idea. I think Richards is a blithering idiot. Hey, maybe next year they will have for Season 40 (if it makes it that far) Richards will think the models are too gorgeous to be on there. So to make it more comical he hires CLOWNS to be the models. That would be adding a little comedy to it!

Speaking of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, while looking at an article about Rich Fields being replaced by guest improv comics on about.com, I came across an article that highlights what makes Wheel and Jeopardy so successful. What a coincidence! Here's the link: http://gameshows.about.com/od/whattowatch/a/wheel_jeopardy.htm
