Las Vegas TPIR review

Let me start by saying the hosts Todd Newton and Randy West (of Supermarket Sweep fame) were awesome hosts. That's about where it ended, for die-hard TPIR fans.

First of all, the show is entirely Barker-centric, which is understandable because I think it's Barker-endorsed/funded. There is NO mention of anything since Barker was the host. Bizarre.

Second, the games are completely bogus and skewed against any frequent viewer of TPIR. (The small prizes in Cliffhanger went something like $20, $20 and $60!!!!) Several Yelp reviews confirm my thinking. None of the IUFB was more than a few hundred dollars (when they could've easily been much more) and the showcase - OMG.

For our showcase there was a car (granted, a Nissan Versa), a 4-night trip to Paris (the REAL Paris, not the sister casino, haha), a semi-expensive suitcase, and an actual slot machine. Guess how much the showcase went for? approx $14,000. What?! Are they sending the winner to Paris by TRAIN? (waits for laffs) The car alone is $12,000! I thought the guy who bid $16,-something was a sure fire winner and the other player overbid at $27,-something. No, they BOTH overbid because someone fudged a bunch of numbers so no one would win.

DISLIKE! If I'd have known this I never would've spent the money - FOR MY WHOLE FAMILY! ($50/ea for an afternoon show. You can see an amazing pm Cirque show for the same price if you play your cards right. er...no card playing involved.)

Every loyal fan of the series brags on about the Vegas version being a complete rip-off. Well, I agree with you, because they do indeed have a fairly low budget, probably being forced on by the casino or I don't know what all. There needs to be a further investigation.

I agree with you on some points, VogueVixen. I saw the show last year when I was visiting, and was VERY disappointed. The prizes were so cheap, and while I expected they'd be less than the TV version, they were just too cheap. The fact that I paid money to see it, felt like salt in the wound, because I was not even entertained. And unlike you, I was not happy with the host Todd Newton. I thought he tried way to hard to be "Barker'esk" and he just came off as a smarmy car salesman type. The announcer,... just "okay". But, I was in Vegas, and guess this was one gamble, I lost! Word to the wise... skip this sad show, and go to LA and see the real thing, you'll be thoroughly entertained, even if you're not selected!

Bang on ... I would not go back to the one Vegas (as it is a rip off, and not as entertaining!) but I will go back to the real shows until they pick me :)
