George Has Something to Say!

TPIR Announcer George Gray!

Wow! What can I say? Except that I'm really excited and honored to be chosen as the new permanent announcer of "The Price Is Right!" In the last 39 years, there have only been three other full-time announcers, so I know that this was a really big decision for "The Price Is Right" family. As my dad always liked to say..."No pressure!" Speaking of my family, my mother has officially announced that she will be watching "The Price Is Right" 24-hours a day, taking only short restroom breaks.

So all my friends know that I'm a big fan of anything retro. I love vintage cars and motorcycles, and my house looks like a fun, kitchy museum that the guys in the "Rat Pack" would be proud of. I've always been fascinated by the history of television, so it really means something special to be part of the history of famous Stage 33 at CBS Television City - also known as the Bob Barker Studio at CBS in Hollywood!

I now get to stand on the stage that Ed Sullivan, Red Skelton, and Elvis Presley once used, and of course, where the Carol Burnett Show (which I watched reruns of everyday as a kid) shot all of the famous sketches that caused me to go around 5th grade telling bad jokes, and made me want to grow up and be a comedian.

So now I get to stand where Johnny Olsen, Rod Roddy, and Rich Fields each uttered the famous lines "Come on Down!" and (my favorite) "A New Car!" in their own unique way. Now it's my turn to make people scream, laugh, and hug anyone within arms reach by saying their name on "The Price is Right!" How cool is that?!

Thanks again to "The Price Is Right" family for choosing lil' ol' me to be the one that gets to say "Come On Down!" to all the lucky contestants. See you on TV!

I just want to say that I absolutely love you as the announcer...I have had the pleasure of dancing with you from the audience on 2 occasions and getting a hug and signature from you the second taping which reads "come on down" with your name..I hope to be back soon and maybe make it on stage, I would love to hear you say my name and come on down. You do a fantastic job and have an absolutely great personality for this position. Thanks for the smiles you put on my face every day.

George, I have an idea for Season 40.  On Season 40's first playing of 1/2 Off, 1/2 Off's bonus system will change once again.  Contestants will be awarded a $500 Bonus for each small prize pair they get right.  Theirs to keep no matter what.  If they get all 3 small prize pairs right, they'll be awarded a $1,000 Bonus.  Also theirs to keep no matter what.  So they can win up to $2,500 in bonus cash.

Can I just say I was a contestant back in January and attend a prior taping and thought George did an AWESOME job!! His announcing was great and crowd interaction was even better. I hate that all these people are slamming such a great person who makes a great addition to Price!!! Thanks again George for such a wonderful announcement of my name. I tackled the page when I got called!!

    Dear Leatherhog,
Congratulations...based on the first line of your post, you've just insulted Rich Fields, Rod Roddy and Johnny Olson. At the end of EVERY show for the ENTIRE 39-plus years the end line has ALWAYS been "this is George Gray (Rich Fields, Rod Roddy, Johnny Olson) speaking for The Price is Right (pause)...a Fremantle (Mark Goodson/Bill Todman) production!

Please get a clue before you pass judgment like that.

in addition to his overuse of the word NEW, at the end of the program he says:  this is George Gray speaking for TPIR, it is not necessary to say the word speaking, obviously that is what he is doing, speaking, totally redundant and unnecessary, also why are the prices of the prizes given to the contestants that do not appear on stage not given?  everything else on the show has a price, except these, I have wondered that for the 30 some years this show has been on the air - THE PRICE OF EACH AND EVERY PRIZE SHOULD BE ANNOUNCED!
