Wow! What can I say? Except that I'm really excited and honored to be chosen as the new permanent announcer of "The Price Is Right!" In the last 39 years, there have only been three other full-time announcers, so I know that this was a really big decision for "The Price Is Right" family. As my dad always liked to say..."No pressure!" Speaking of my family, my mother has officially announced that she will be watching "The Price Is Right" 24-hours a day, taking only short restroom breaks.
So all my friends know that I'm a big fan of anything retro. I love vintage cars and motorcycles, and my house looks like a fun, kitchy museum that the guys in the "Rat Pack" would be proud of. I've always been fascinated by the history of television, so it really means something special to be part of the history of famous Stage 33 at CBS Television City - also known as the Bob Barker Studio at CBS in Hollywood!
I now get to stand on the stage that Ed Sullivan, Red Skelton, and Elvis Presley once used, and of course, where the Carol Burnett Show (which I watched reruns of everyday as a kid) shot all of the famous sketches that caused me to go around 5th grade telling bad jokes, and made me want to grow up and be a comedian.
So now I get to stand where Johnny Olsen, Rod Roddy, and Rich Fields each uttered the famous lines "Come on Down!" and (my favorite) "A New Car!" in their own unique way. Now it's my turn to make people scream, laugh, and hug anyone within arms reach by saying their name on "The Price is Right!" How cool is that?!
Thanks again to "The Price Is Right" family for choosing lil' ol' me to be the one that gets to say "Come On Down!" to all the lucky contestants. See you on TV!
